As we enter our third year at Penn we are asked to pause and consider the midpoint in our undergraduate careers at which we find ourselves. In the backward direction we a have a sea of memories, many of which we have shared together ranging from the Class of 2009: Members Only Party at the National Constitution Center, Cheering on Penn football when they played at Princeton, attending special performing arts events like DanceBrazil and hypnotist Tom Deluca, learning about Penn traditions from University historian Mark Lloyd, and celebrating a fantastic Skimmer. Looking in the forward direction, this next year will be replete with new challenges whether they be academic, social, artistic, or athletic. As a class, many of us will spread out in the world to take on experience in new countries while others will engage ourselves more in the Penn community and the greater Philadelphia community.
This year, as we all remain committed to ourselves and our goals, I encourage you to feel and understand the commitment that we have to each other. The Class of 2009 Executive Board -- your Junior Class Board -- is a group of elected representative who do just that. We advocate the concerns of our Junior Class Community and promote a sense of class unity through innovative geared to us.
This year we have a slew of events and traditions ranging from a Not Abroad Picnic for those of us staying on campus, another amazing Homecoming tailgate, Junior Class Does Junior High, Clash of the Classes at the Palestra, A night of Jazz, and of course HEY DAY.
We are excited to announce the continuation of our Class of 2009 Pick of the Week (POW) competition, as well Photos from Abroad, a photo contest for 09ers to submit funny photos along with captions while abroad.
Even more, however, is yet to come… Hey Day, Ivy Day, Feb Club, and the Class Gift Drive. This year, I look forward deepening our connection to both Penn and to each other.

Now in the second semester of our second year at Penn, I encourage you to take a moment and reflect on the time we have had together and all of the excitement that lies in store.
Last April we celebrated the end of our freshman year with the Penn Traditions Class of 2009: Members Only Event at the National Constitution Event. After a long summer break we hit the ground running with SPEC's No Place Like Penn Weekend when we sponsored world famous hypnotist Tom Deluca at Irvine Auditorium. Sophomores who attended the Homecoming game enjoyed rocking the www.Penn09.com Wayfarer Sunglasses, brought to you exclusively by your Class Board. If you didn't have enough of Penn football, however, we brought you to Princeton the subsequent weekend's away game where we tailgated, received sweet shirts, and enjoyed hoagies from our boys at Hoagie Haven. At the annual State of the School Address in December you were able to hear about the Sophomore Class as well as from other student leaders from the NEC, SAC, SPEC, SCUE, and the UA.
The launch of www.Penn09.com marks the next step in your experience at Penn. It is part of a greater initiative to provide more programming especial for you, the Sophomores. Look forward to the Clash of the Classes at the Palestra on February 9th along with the Sophomore Skimmer on March 20th.
But even more is in store… Hey Day, Ivy Day, Feb Club, and the Class Gift Drive. I look forward deepening our connection to both Penn and to each other.
